This is the story about how two Heart Runners saved a life.
In Denmark we have an initiative called Heart Runner by TrygFonden. As a heart runner, you volunteer to run out with a defibrillator and provide CPR if a cardiac arrest occurs near you. You can make a crucial difference by starting CPR and using the defibrillator before the ambulance arrives. All it takes is a smartphone and some courage.
Emil Kruse and Eva Kruse approached me with their touching story about how their father suffered a cardiac arrest on Valentine’s Day. He went into a coma, and the family waited several days in uncertainty. The film takes place during these days. Time becomes abstract, and we follow Emil Kruse, who waits at the hospital while also trying to live his life, which continues outside the hospital walls — a life that is suddenly put into perspective. The core of the film is the duality between stillness and movement — life and death. As we see Emil Kruse blindly navigating between these two opposites, we hear his poetic reflections.
